Moving to one blog
Thank you to all who have been encouraging me. I decided to condense into one blog. My new blog is titled, A Cat in My Lap. I'm combining the stories of art and the cabin and everything in between onto one space.
I was feeling a bit fragmented, and not always having news for two blogs, so I think this will actually be more interesting to most readers. I'll leave the old blogs up for a while. I'll probably move some of my favorite posts to the new one eventually.
If you have linked to my blog in the past, thank you for doing so. I've kept most of my links on the new blog as I feel I have gotten to know most of you through your blogs. If you like what I am doing at A Cat in My Lap, maybe you'll update your link to me!
So, come on over to A Cat in My Lap and show me some love!
Many warm thoughts, Dana

two is too much
I've been thinking about giving up the blog thing.
or combining them or something.
It's a real time hog.

I have nothing to say
Alert the presses, Dana Jones has no words to share. I'll be back when I can think of some.

One of "These" Days
It was a lazy day at the cabin. There is still lots of wood to clear after the falling trees from Hurrican Ike in September. But it was just not on the radar this weekend.
Nope, instead, this picture pretty much captures all the activity that we could muster this weekend. (Y-A-W-N)

Good morning, or bad morning?

I woke up this morning and put on some coffee.

And sighed over a sink of left over dirty dishes.

I fed the cat, and spilled a gallon of water on the floor trying to put the
self-watering canister back on the stand.
Then I spilled all the cat food when I lifted the top off of that bowl without thinking.

But I got it all mopped up (me on my knees before I've even had coffee!)
and decided it was a two egg day for all my troubles.
Hogscald Holler. An award for fabulous fall decor and I wonder, "I don't think
I've shown a lot of fall decor yet. I've been meaning to blog about my front porch, all decked
out for fall," so here, I have my blog assignment.

So, I walked outside and these friendly faces greeted me.

And a big howdy and happy halloween to you too!

And everywhere I looked, everyone was smiling at me.

Even this little critter seemed to be saying lighten up.
Oh what fun a dollar can bring with plastic lizards from the dollar store.
(I always sneak one or two in a bag for an unsuspecting trick or treater too!)

And the sun was shining bright and warm everywhere I looked.

And even an artificial fall wreath made me feel better... like all cozy inside.

And the gourds and pumpkins all seemed to be brighter in the early morning light.

And my ageratum was waving a sea of bright blue from the garden.

And the grasses have fully plumed.

And I noticed the hollies have set their winter berries and will feed the birds this winter.

And I snickered at my ugly pumpkin, all warted, kind of like me, just needing someone to say you're worthy of a special place I am saving just for you.

And a little volunteer dianthus was lifting pretty pink petals up to the sky.

A trip indoors revealed these spooks waiting to be staged in their place of honor.

And a little pine-cone reminded me of the journey we just took when Steve handed it to me and I said, "Thank you, I'll cherish it forever"... and I meant it.

And little wooly creations by Vicki beckoned me to give them a little squeeze.

And the big paper-mache Jack seemed to be saying, "I rule this roost you have given me in the center of your mantle."

And then I decided to welcome all of you to my morning, full of whimsy and light, a sink still full of dirty dishes and a few stray pieces of cat food on the floor.

News from the Cabin
Life has been busy lately and I haven't posted about the cabin in a while. For those wondering about the big project, the retaining wall is finished. It looks pretty good. The guys added some mulch to the area that had been trampled by men in boots and nothing was growing there anyway. I suspect this spring I'll try to get some shade loving native plants growing here. Please feel free to make suggestions. We need plants that deer won't eat, and that will naturalize. I do not garden at the cabin, since I have more than I can do at home!
I had a recent visitor to the cabin. This was her chariot which brought her. She said her hubby bought it for her and little does he know it is a real man magnet. ha ha! It comes complete with fuzzy dice.
And I went out to the giant craft show at War Eagle Mill a week or so ago. Of course my motivation was to buy up as many wool goodies as I could carry from Vicki at Hogscald Holler. My mantle is covered with wool pumpkins, owls, cats and jack-o-lanterns! It was a gorgeous day there and the crowd was elbow-to-elbow.
And the view at the cabin is changing. I can see my neighbor across the lake now, which was completely obscured by the trees earlier in summer. This photo below was taken last December. It is not quite this bare and gloomy looking yet but it will be in just a few weeks. I actually like winter in Eureka. I like the winter colors of bark and fallen leaves, and the best part is you can see things in winter you just can't see in summer.
So, that's the news from Peace of the Rock, aka, my cabin. Be sure this weekend to listen to Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion on NPR. It is being broadcast live from my hometown, Tulsa. I wish I could be there, but I'll be listening to it in my car as I travel the road between home and the cabin.
